“If you’re blue and you don’t know where to go to
Why don’t you go where Harlem flits
Puttin’ on the Ritz”
That’s right, gang, it’s time to put back on the Ritz. “Puttin’ on the Ritz” means to get dressed up all glitzy and glammy. And why not? You only live once, right? And what’s the best way to put on the Ritz? By harkening back to those olden days when “Puttin’ on the Ritz” was the hottest song in town, the 1920s! Yes, the 1920s, when flappers weren’t birds but women dressed for going out, when Al Capone ruled the world of secret speakeasies, and when Warren G referred to Warren G Harding, the president! It was a different time, full of carefree fun. Whether you were getting rich off the Teapot Dome scandal or just enjoying the teetotaling life of Prohibition, the 1920s were a wonderful time for America, and certainly nothing bad would ever happen again, right?
Wrong! The Great Depression happened. What a mess! Let’s not think about all that icky bad stuff. Instead, let’s focus on the fun and good times of being a happy flapper! Kick up your heels and twirl that fringe as you Charleston your way from here to… Charleston! It’s the perfect way to revel in the cultural history of the time, and you get to wear sequins! That’s a win win! Sequins and fringe on the same dress is almost too wonderful, but fortunately there aren’t any laws against fun! So get your dancing shoes on, it’s time to make some memories!
